Stag Hunt in a River

This painting represents a prerogative of aristocrats; even they were permitted to hunt deer only one day per year. The Italianate, rose coloured landscape seems a leisure ground, a never-never land rather than a productive hunting field, even if the run-down cottage hints at the transience of such pleasures.
